Ticket Validation

Since the Altamont Commuter Express is a barrier-free system, riders must validate their tickets before boarding. There are two ways of doing this, depending on the type of ticket you're using: if you're using a one-way, round-trip or twenty trip ticket, you MUST validate the ticket in a Ticket Validation Machine (TVM) before boarding. These machines are easy to use and are available at each boarding platform. If you're using a monthly pass, the procedure is even easier: simply sign the back, and you're set for the month! After boarding the train, be sure to display your valid ticket in a plastic sleeve (ACE provides these to passengers). Train attendants and Fare Inspectors check the tickets for validation as they greet the passengers between stations.
