    Scott Haggerty

    Commissioner

Scott Haggerty was first elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in November of 1996. He is currently serving a sixth four-year term on the Board. Haggerty's district includes the cities of Livermore, Dublin, most of the city of Fremont and unincorporated areas of East Alameda County.

Supervisor Haggerty has taken a leading role in improving transportation throughout the Bay Area region. With traffic traveling through Alameda County projected to double by 2030, his goals include making long-needed improvements in major travel corridors including I-580 in the Tri-Valley, one of the most congested roads in the Bay Area; and expanding and enhancing transit service. Scott is currently working to ensure the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) extension to Livermore is completed, and also has a key role in an ongoing effort to extend BART to San Jose.

With regional transportation and infrastructure issues a priority, Supervisor Haggerty is active on a number of boards and commissions and has extensive experience in this policy area.  In addition to his role as member of the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission (SJRRC), Supervisor Haggerty was appointed to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) in 2000, he currently serves as commissioner and has formerly served as chair.  At the county level, Scott serves on the Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC). He is a member and former chair of the Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA), which operates the WHEELS and Rapid bus services as well as paratransit service in the Tri-Valley; a member of the Tri-Valley Transportation Council (TVTC); and chair of the Board of Supervisors Transportation and Planning Committee.

At the national level, Scott represents Alameda County at the National Association of Counties (NACo) serving in various leadership capacities. He also serves on the California State Association of Counties (CSAC).  He is a long-time member of NACo's Transportation Steering Committee serving two prior terms as Chair, as well as, heading up subcommittees for Rail and Transit and for Ports.

In addition to his leadership in the transportation arena, Supervisor Haggerty places strong priorities in the fields of public safety, social services, and housing and Veterans issues.  A complete list of his engagement and committees on which he serves can be found here
